Welcome to class. We’re going to discuss some exciting business stuff today ( insert sarcasm here). Have you ever heard of the law of diminishing returns? This business law or work principle says that a continual increase in effort or investment does not lead to a continual increase in output or results. I understand the idea of it as it applies to business but in reality, it is just a bunch of economic jargon. It’s nice to know that God is not aware of this idea at all but of something that is the exact opposite… the “law of increasing returns.”
This idea is taught in 2 Peter 1:5-8 where it says, “Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We’re told here that if we work hard to add these attributes to our lives that we can expect an increase in our returns. We’ll be effective and productive in our effort to know Jesus better and we’ll also, through our example, bring others to Him.
Hope you enjoyed today’s lesson. Class is dismissed.
