Did you know you were created to be like God? Yes, our all-powerful and holy God created us in His image, to be like Him (Gen. 1:27). God has always meant for us to have communion with Him, to spend time with Him and to love Him as a child would love a father. God would even spend time walking with Adam and Eve in the garden He created for them (Gen. 3:8). And yet we have lost that communion, that companionship with our creator because of our sin. Our holy and righteous God cannot look upon our sin and our relationship together is lost.
But the story doesn’t end there. God, in his infinite wisdom, has provided a means of reconciliation through the sacrifice of His son Jesus. When we believe in Him who made that sacrifice and put Jesus on in baptism, committing to live our lives for Him, we are reunited with our Father God. But God would not have us only show our love for Him through words or man-made creeds. He would rather have our hearts, our undying devotion to dedicating our lives to be like Him.
In Ephesians 4:22-24, we are told how it is that we are to live. “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Let’s challenge ourselves daily to transform into what God has created us to be…holy and righteous children of a holy and righteous God.
