Fear Not

Fear not!  You don’t know how badly I need to hear those words. I’m a worrier.  Not all the time but enough that it makes me have doubt. When that doubt creeps in, I over analyze. I create scenarios in my mind of the worst case possible and it controls my life. So I have to turn to the word of God. I have found some go-to passages, ones that bring peace and comfort in times of worry and doubt.

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”  (2 Timothy 1:7)

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.”  (Romans 8:15)

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”  (1 John 4:18)

“If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the Lord, who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”  (Psalm 91: 9-11)

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”  (Psalm 31:24)

“In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”  (Psalm 56:11)

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”  (Psalm 23:4)

“For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. What, then, shall we say in response to this?  If God is for us, who can be against us?  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?  As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Psalm  8:29, 31, 35-39)

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  (John 14:27)

“The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?  (Psalm 27:1)

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve just been so challenged with doubt lately that I had no choice but to turn to these verses. They have lifted me up and hopefully they will do the same for others.
