Guaranteed!

As I’ve mentioned before, I am an avid hiker and backpacker.  With most sports or hobbies, there is a little outlay of money involved to buy the products necessary to participate.  With hiking, one of your most valuable purchases is footwear.  It is a sport that requires your feet to carry you everywhere, usually over long distances at a time.  And when you’re carrying a backpack weighing up to 30 or 35 pounds, your choice of shoes can be quite important.

After saving money and doing research, I decided to purchase a pair of boots from the company Salomon.  They fit great, look good, and are rugged and sturdy.  There was only one problem.  They cost $230.00!!!  You may not agree, but I think that is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on any piece of clothing or footwear.  The kicker though was the lifetime guarantee.  I can go out and put in 2,000 miles  trekking across gravel-covered mountains or muddy forest trails and if the boots fall apart, Salomon will replace them for free.  The guarantee was too good to pass up and I bought the boots.

Likewise, we have a guarantee from God through the Holy Spirit.  His seal identifies us in his eyes as holy.  His mark certifies we belong to Him.

“And you were also included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.  Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession- to the praise of his glory.”

(Ephesians 1:13-14)

“Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows who are his.'”

(2 Timothy 2:19a)

As these passages in God’s word attest, we are sealed, protected, redeemed, and possessed.  It’s comforting to get a guarantee from a reputable company, but nothing is more trustworthy than a guarantee from God!
