“The sky is falling!!!” Well, at least it is according to Chicken Little and anyone else who lives in a world of anxiety. The Anxiety and Depression Association reports 40 million U.S. adults (that’s 18% of the population) suffers from some kind of anxiety disorder. And I believe it. We live in a world where it’s easy to worry. Corrupt governments, fragile economies, terrorists groups, health problems. It’s understandable to be a little jaded and scared at times.
But God did not give us a spirit of timidity (2 Timothy 1:7). We’re reminded in Philippians 4:6 and Matthew 6:25-34 not to worry. A lot easier said than done right? Yet one of the best ways to combat anxiety is to replace it with joy. We have much to be thankful for, far more than we need for real contentment. There is much good to be found if we’re willing to look for it (Philippians 4:8). So fill your life with joy. It’s far better than the alternative.
