God’s glory is incomprehensible. And his glory is realized when we fulfill our mission. While each of us has unique roles to play in furthering God’s Kingdom, all Christians share the important job of continuing what Jesus started.
First, we should recognize that Jesus went. He didn’t stay in his rightful place in heaven but instead chose to become one of us, showing us how to love one another. Ultimately, he payed for his gift with his life (Philippians 2:6-11). And Jesus asks us to do the same (Luke 9:23).
We refer to the passage in the picture above as the “Great Commission” and, in doing so, give proper importance to this very vital mission. It’s not just a “great idea” or a “great suggestion” that Jesus gives us. It is a privilege beyond compare to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, continuing what he started. We have the wonderful opportunity to represent God by making disciples in his name. Through the gospel of Jesus Christ, we hold the secret to the grace, mercy and forgiveness that can be found nowhere else but in him. We help grant access to the treasure of God’s love when we teach and baptize those around us who are lost and dying.
In the end, our mission has eternal significance that gives our lives meaning and purpose. God created us for this very reason…to enjoy Him and help others do so as well. “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20). Decide now to live the life God has called you to live. A life that praises and serves him.
