I’ve heard it said that the church is full of a bunch of hypocrites. It’s a widely used excuse today to forgo religion or even church attendance. My response is that churches aren’t full of hypocrites. They’re just full of “emperfict” people.
I can speak for myself and most Christians I know when I say that we don’t stare down our noses at nonbelievers as if they have something wrong with them. We don’t look at the faults of other Christians with a critical eye. We also don’t believe we have it all together ourselves.
What we do believe in is the hope given us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This isn’t a blind hope, a dream or a wish upon a star. It’s a bold declaration of our trust in the goodness of God.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade- kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.”
(1 Peter 1:3-5)
Our hope is alive! Our inheritance awaits! Jesus will return! So you see, Christians aren’t perfect people…we’re just forgiven.
