According to Traditions of Men

We’re living in a new age of reason.  Well, according to the New Atheism movement we are.  And with all this amazing human knowledge comes the realization that there is no need for a God.  Why have faith when you can just think for yourself?  Why submit to a God when you can be your own authority?  Much of the world has fallen for these man-made lies and has sadly turned their backs on their creator.  But even more sad is the fact that even in the church some have been misled by the traditions of men.

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

(Colossians 2:8)

Instead of focusing on the cornerstone, our Savior Jesus Christ, many have fallen for the traditions from the world.  Instead of worshipping the God from the Bible, people have followed religious philosophies cooked up by sinful man.  There has always been only one true church, started by Jesus himself, but now it has been broken apart and fragmented to please personal preferences.  This is not the kind of church that Jesus died for.

We must be brave enough to base our beliefs on the Bible.  We must try every day to practice the love and forgiveness that Jesus modeled for us.  We must stay focused on the Word and not get bogged down with outward shows of religion meant to make us look pious before a lost world.  Just because it’s what has always been done or that it’s popular religious culture doesn’t mean it’s God’s will.

Whatever you do, question whether it’s right before God, not man.  Question whether it coincides with his will and the truth of his word.  Always remember the words of Jesus, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
