I recently viewed a sermon series online that had me questioning myself and my ability to live a righteous life. The speaker, although quoting from the Bible, was trying to convince his audience that he no longer struggles with sin or even temptation for that matter. He was giving the impression that he has completely surpassed the trappings of this world and is wholly focused on living a holy life for God. I knew in my heart that claiming to have no sin is a dangerous claim indeed (1 John 1:8,10), but I was still left with a slight sense of guilt for the temptations that I face in my own life.
Today, we are going to start a 5 part series looking at how we can fight temptation in our lives and we must begin by admitting the fact that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). To teach or believe otherwise would be to completely contradict the Bible as well as put the righteousness of our lives on par with Jesus. The truth is, we all are faced with temptation, sometimes daily, and there are effective ways to fight the battles that Satan wages against our souls.
In the next post, we will begin our discussion with the importance of recognizing our tendency towards certain sins. We’ll examine how and why some things tempt us while others do not, and we’ll learn to understand where temptation actually comes from. Please join me as we learn how to fight this important battle of temptation in our lives.
