I’ve been chosen for a lot of things in my life. Chosen for various jobs I’ve applied for. Chosen for a team playing a plethora of different sports. Chosen by my wife to be worthy of her hand in marriage. Many of them were momentous events while others were of little importance.
It feels good to be chosen doesn’t it? There’s a sense of pride and significance to be the one picked for an essential role, a role that hopefully no one else can play but you. But there’s that contrary feeling of not being chosen. It’s a sense of going unnoticed, of being the one that doesn’t count, the one that’s not good enough. Sadly, we’ve all been on that end as well. And I can speak from experience that it doesn’t feel pleasant at all.
While those in the world may let us down, and while we may face rejection from time to time, we have nothing to fear when it comes to being important in God’s eyes. To him, you are worth more than you could ever imagine. In fact, he proves it to us not just by word but by action. Just read John 3:16 or 1 Peter 1:18-19 sometime. They speak of how God has chosen you and chosen me to be the recipient of his immeasurable love. The entire biblical narrative proves that we are specifically chosen by God for greatness. All we have to do is accept it.
“You are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession.”
(1 Peter 2:9)
